I have been using my Tiro note keeping system for about two and a half months and I’ve made some tweaks to how it works

I have written about my Tiro note keeping and processing system previously:

Originally I designed it to be a single markdown file, which I used templates to store different types of information. To be able to automatically load the notes into GitHub, I started to edit the notes with the Obsidian markdown app. In doing so I realised that using just one file and templates wasn’t the most efficient way to do it, because I could simply have tabs for the main information types I had identified, and then put notes into the right tab, and I’d have all related information together. The information types that are working well in this format are:

I have two other tabs that don’t work quite as well:

This is what it looks like:

The Ideas and Facts tabs don’t work so well because the entries tend to be long. I think they might be better as their own directories in Obsidian. I am still working on that (I’ve been working on the best system to keep my ideas in for years. One day I will find it!)

So now I have a system that works like this:

  1. I try to keep notes in the system above.
  2. These go into a GitHub repository.
  3. I have a Claude project with access to the repository.
  4. I call that system LOS (for Life Operating System), and I’m working on ways to use the data in it in useful ways.

Here are my notes on LOS:

I guess soon this kind of thing is going to be build into the OS. But I like my system because I have complete control over it and I understand everything that’s going on. I’m not sure I’m going to like the type of Operating System shown in the (wonderful) film Her, because those systems are going to be made by OpenAI, or Meta, Google or Microsoft, and I don’t trust those guys very much at all. I don’t want my own tools trying to influence me to buy stuff, or to influence my politics, or play psychological games with my attention. So I’m hoping I’m going to be able to develop my Tiro and LOS systems into my own personal knowledge system for the long term.
