A quick look at Cursor, and why it sucks

A lot of people seem to be talking about Cursor, a programming tool similar to GitHub Copilot. It costs 20USD a month, and uses both Athropic and OpenAI models behind the scenes. I decided to try it out.
Why it sucks:
- Firstly, it is obviously just VS Code with some additions. Why didn’t they just make it an extension for VS Code, then I wouldn’t have to have two applications installed.
- You need to registered and be logged in to use it, via a web browser. When I try to log in with my Google account, it throws an error, and a crappy one liner at that (“Not found”). Sorry but if you can’t get basic stuff like that right then I’m not using your service.
- It also, curiously, seemed to throw a warning about Microsoft licensing. Someone raises the question on the Cursor forums here, calling it “a significant liability risk”, with no response. I only want to learn tools that I am going to use in the long term, so if there is chance that Microsoft will in some way stop Cursor then I don’t want to use it.
