Adam the jumping spider
Crappy photograph I took of Adam the jumping spider.
I have a tiny jumping spider that lives in my office . It’s about 7mm long and is very active. I managed to take a crappy photograph of him (I think it’s a male, females are a bit bigger) which you can see above.
My iphone identified the species as Hasarius adansoni. I think this looks about right. Here is an image of the species from Wikimedia:
A pretty good match I think. I uploaded the photograph to ChatGPT o3 and it spent almost three minutes thinking about then, concluding that it’s that thinks it’s the Zebra Jumping Spider Salticus scenicus. I don’t think that’s right at all, they have lots more white stripes.
Jumping spiders are the best spiders:
- They are small and cute.
- They don’t make webs.
- They are very intelligent!
- They are good dancers.
Anyway, I am calling him Adam. He is very welcome.
